Arthritis sufferers have many treatment options available to them. Your doctor
may give you an exercise regimen, change your diet, prescribe medication, or
even recommend surgery. As well, many arthritis patients are finding that alternative
medicine and more natural treatment options are providing great relief with
their symptoms. Some forms of alternative arthritis therapy include herbal
supplements, natural topical creams, massage, acupuncture, prayer and meditation.
While doctors don't always agree with these methods, studies are showing that
these alternative arthritis therapies really do have merit. Certainly, if you
are experiencing daily arthritis pain, they are worth considering.
Arthritis Today publishes a guide every year describing the various arthritis
supplements available. Keep in mind that while alternative arthritis
supplements are generally very safe, you should still consult your doctor to be
sure they don't react negatively with other medications you may be taking. You
can also speak to your pharmacist regarding the desired dosage of each
medication or supplement you are taking within the context of your overall
regimen.
Acupuncture
is a form of Chinese Medicine that many arthritis patients are using to combat
arthritis pain. Arthritic pain symptoms, according to this philosophy, are
related to constrictions in your vital internal energy meridians. An
acupuncturist will first diagnose your overall condition by taking your pulse
and checking out your tongue, skin etc. The therapy consists of placing small
needles in your body at very specific points that serve to stimulate your
energy flow or qi (pronounced chee).
Prayer and meditation is also used by many people to treat arthritis and other
physical conditions. Meditation does not necessarily have a religious
affiliation, and can be used as a way to reduce stress which in turn takes
pressure off all or your interal systems, including your joints. Prayer can
produce similar results in terms of stress, and of course the idea of calling
upon a higher power to intervene on your behalf is a very powerful healer for many
people of faith. Both are great conduits through which you can become thankful
for your life, even though some pain may remain.
Based on the positive results of others, you should be encouraged to investigate
all arthritis treatment options at your disposal.
