Do you have joint pain or other symptoms that could be arthritis or tendonitis? If so, there are many things you can do to improve your situation. Of course there is no substitute for following your doctor's advice, but here are some things to keep in mind. Although it is often thought that arthritis is just an inconvenience, it is in fact a serious medical condition. You should do your best to attack it head on in the beginning to enhance your chances of living pain free later in life.

Important Note: If you are currently in severe pain and live in the United States you may want to check out the Madison Pain Clinic

When you first start to experience joint pain it is important to see your doctor right away. Any kind of joint stiffness or swelling could be early signs of arthritis. This is not always the case, but you would do well to consult your doctor to be on the safe side. Catching arthritis symptoms early allows you to get a head start on a good exercise program and start to take supplements and medications that could slow the onset of arthritis.

Whether you are concerned about rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis or any of the many other types of arthritis, catching it early and reacting to it appropriately could help you to live longer and more comfortably later in life. Arthritis can affect you for a short time then go into remission. If this happens you may feel there is no real problem, when in fact it can come back even worse the next time. So once again, if you feel arthritic symptoms in your knee, hip, shoulder, spine or other joints, even for a short time, it is important to go to your doctor and get it checked out.

Another common mistake is to ignore your arthritis treatment and not take the appropriate medications and supplements. It is important to find something that works for you, so if you feel your doctor's suggestions aren't working for you it is always a good idea to seek further opinions. By not taking anything at all for your arthritis you could be causing yourself unnecessary pain later in life. You also need to make sure you are taking the correct amounts of the supplements and/or medications. Your pharmicist can be very helpful in this regard.

Another important factor is a healthy lifestyle. You would be well advised to quit smoking and lower your alcohol consumption. Be sure you are partaking in regular exercise and getting enough sleep. If you need to lose some weight then this can be helpful. Learning relaxation techniques or other activities that will lower your stress levels is highly advisable. These things together can help to reduce the pressure on your joints and give your medications and supplements a better chance of succeeding.

Always remember there are many positive things you can do to improve your situation!
